Formerly the OpenCoral Open Source Aquarium Controller

Welcome! You've reached the home of the OpenCoral system of open programmable logic controllers. We are a very small team working on developing software and hardware, in an open fashion usable by experienced hobbyists and companies, for the control and monitoring of aquariums (both saltwater and freshwater) and other automation systems (irrigation, etc). This site documents the design and development of the various components in this proje…

OCnet is now available in two “flavors”, OCnet Basic and OCnet Advanced.

OCnet Basic

OCnet Basic is based upon ModBus/RTU over 2-wire RS-485.

OCnet Advanced

OCnet Advanced is built around the CANbus (Controller Area Network) CAN 2.0A standard. CAN is a very well established bus, commonly used in automotive applications, for communicating amongst the various modules. It features very long bus lengths (above and beyond 100m) and high data rates.

The TipTop is the first major components in the OpenCoral system.

	* Monitor water levels using up to 4 external float switches or solid-state optical sensors.
	* Monitor temperature with 2 thermistor inputs.
	* Control up to three pumps or other AC devices using an integrated switched AC outlet based upon user programmable sensor and time states. Uses a soft-turn on Triac based switch for minimal pump wear and no-moving-parts reliability.
	* Report its operation, and allow override comm…
